Chapter 9: Questions and Reality

Leocyn (c) ShadrelPendragon

----------------------------------

Derrek sat at one end of a table. He was in a small police department interogation room. The man in front of him stared at him with strangely calm eyes.

"Now that we have a chance to talk, let me first introduse myself. My name is Seth Draven. You are here to tell me what you know about what happened to that town." the man began.

"I don't know what happened. I was out hiking. When I got back, I found it destroyed." Derrek lied. He had planned out what to say on the drive to the next town over.

"You were hiking, eh? Then tell me, who were you hiking with?" The man persisted. Derrek guest he might have asked that, so he allready had a comeback. but he had to be careful. If he hesitated, it would be bad. If he went to fast, it would still be bad. "I was with a friend and his family. After we got back from hiking, they dropped me off at the bus station just south of the town. I walked the rest of the way back."

The man nodded, taking the explenation. He paused for a moment, as if thinking of something. "I heard you broke your leg and the towns people found you just on the edge of town. Explain how that happened."

Derrek paused, confused by the change of subject. "I was pushed off the edge of a cliff by a fellow school junior named Pete and his two friends. I broke my leg on a rock. I managed to make a crutch from a tree limb and work my way back to the town before passing out."

The man frowned, not believing it. "I see. So, your telling me that you managed to find a way back up a cliff and walk all the way back to town with a broken leg without only a twig as support?"

Derrek nodded.

Draven clasped his hands together. "What happened to Pete after that night? People say that he was in town one moment, then never came back home. There was no body and no sign of a crime. Can you tell me anything about that?"

Derrek tried his hardest not to bite his lip. "I was as confused as everyone else."

"Was?"

Derrek realised his mistake, his eyes widening for a second. Draven caught the reaction but didn't comment. "Was, as in before the town's massacer." He corected a bit too quickly. He was losing his control.

Draven sat back in his chair. "Do you know how your Father died?"

Derrek was about to answer, before he realised something. How did he know that? "I... I don't know. How do you know if he died?"

Draven leaned forward and stared at Derrek for a long moment. "I was... close by."

----

Derrek rested in his jail cell, watching the ceiling. How did Draven know about his father dying? What was going on? Suddenly, he heard a sound from the barred window that showed the town outside. It was night out and everyone was asleep. Derrek stood on his bed and peered outside. At first he didn't see anything, but suddenly a large green eye surrounded by camouflaged skin blocked his view. "Leocyn!" Derrek whispered excitedly, "How did you find me?"

"I followed the car. It was easy. After that, it was just a simple matter of waiting until night and scenting you out." Leocyn replied in a hushed tone.

"Well, how are you going to get me out? I'm locked inside."

As if to answer, leocyn threw a set of keys through the window. "How did you get these?" Derrek asked, suprised.

"I took them off the jail guard that was leaving a few minutes ago."

Derrek thought for a minute, before thinking of something. "you didn't eat him did you?"

"of course not! You made me promice not to eat any more people, besides yourself of course. I just knocked him out with a small hit to the head and took the keys. Now, no more talk, I'll be waiting on the left of the front doors, in the bushes." Leocyn said before moving out of view.

Derrek picked up the keys and searched for the right one. After a long minute he unlocked the door and snuck out of the hall. The night shift was asleep, making it a little bit easier to sneek past. Draven was nowhere in sight. Figured, his shift was over.

Derrek reached the front door and took a left. When he passed the line of bushes and trees, he saw Leocyn. Below leocyn, laying next to the wall, was the unconcious guard.

"Glad to see you again." Leocyn said joyously. Derrek ran forward and hugged Leocyn's Neck. After the moment passed. Derrek said, "lets get out of here, now."

Leocyn nodded and opened his mouth wide. But Derrek stepped back. "Actually, this time I was thinking of riding on your back." Leocyn frowned for a moment, dissapointed, before nodding. Leocyn crouched to the ground, allowing Derrek to climb up.

After Derrek was set, Leocyn stood and leaped into the air.

----

A lone man watched Leocyn and Derrek fly into the air, a scowl on his face. He came out of the shroud of a tree's shadow. "i think its about time to confront an old aquaintence." Draven said, before turning and walking into the night.
I know this one is short. But the last chapter got me stuck on this part. So I decided to half this next chapter, the first part is to get out of this writers block, lol.

Hope you enjoy!

Okay, I read the remaining chapters and thought I'd give a try to completing the story from where gmaster left us hanging.
